Notts County got off to the perfect start to the season on Saturday when the weeks of hard work in training paid off and they recorded a 3-0 away win.

But manager Martin Allen was quick to point out that it was his team that produced the fine win and not him.

He praised his side by telling BBC Radio Nottingham: ‘It’s the players that have done it. Sitting here saying how good I am and all that – it’s the players that deserve the credit – they’re the ones that go over that white line.

‘It’s alright me saying do this, do that, but God bless, it’s the players that deserve the credit.

‘There is a great team spirit here and that’s very pleasing.’
