Notts County came in to the Coventry game yesterday on the back of three successive defeats, and two of them were heavy scorelines against.

Manager Shaun Derry had said he wanted a reaction from the lads and he certainly got that with County registering a three nil win thanks to goals from Hayden Mullins, James Spencer and Alan Sheehan.

The victory moved us out of the relegation zone even though it’s only on goal difference but a single point separates us from 16th place with how tight it is at the bottom of the table now.

So we are by no means safe yet, but also by no means are we far off pushing up the table to far more comfortable positions.

Speaking to the press following the victory Derry explained.

‘The performance was the best I’ve seen since I’ve been here. We’ve had some fantastic results and some great wins, but if you look at the whole performance that was a proper team performance.’

Derry’s delight was palpable in his interviews and not only did he think we were ruthless in attack, but he also beamed that it was our best defensive and midfield performance, adding that the senior players really stepped up and led by example and proved why they will be so important for us between now and the end of the season.

‘The players really wanted to show the fans what they were made of and as I say, it was a complete performance.’

Results of late haven’t quite matched the performances we have been putting in as a whole so it’s nice to see why go for us, keep a clean sheet and win so comprehensively, as fresh off the back of three defeats that should really lift the players again and give them something to build from.
