Manager Shaun Derry has said that he feels he is close to securing the loan extensions of impressive duo Callum McGregor and Jack Grealish.

Both players found the net in our last game against Bradford and that did mark the expiry of McGregor’s time with us, although Grealish is still eligible until January 13th.

It’s believed a number of clubs are interested in both players, so Derry has moved quick to give us the best chance possible of either keeping them both for a further month and then possible extensions, or hopefully on a straight ‘until the end of the season’ basis.

In quotes carried by Sky Sports, the gaffer explained.

‘We’re getting close on both now. Discussions have taken place, everybody knows where everyone stands and it’s now up to a final decision from their clubs.’

Derry goes on to say that having spoken to both players they are happy to remain because they are enjoying their football and the minutes they are getting, and he’s talked to them often enough about the situation anyway over the past few weeks, so he’s confident that a deal can be done that suits all parties.

In other news, it’s also been revealed by the gaffer that Gary Liddle does not need an ankle operation following the ligament injury the 27 year old received in the game against Bristol City prior to Christmas.

It’s still expected that he will miss most of the season now, but should he have needed an operation he would’ve definitely been out until next season.
