Manager Shaun Derry has said he can have no complaints about the loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers yesterday, but he feels we could’ve played much better on the day.

County went down two nil yesterday and the victory was deserved in all honesty, but speaking to the press following the game, Derry couldn’t help admit that although we didn’t let ourselves down over the course of 90 minutes, we can certainly perform better than we did.

‘When you come to Molineux, with the size and structure of the club, you don’t want to let yourself down. I wouldn’t say we let ourselves down but I was very disappointed in terms of how we played against Coventry and how we played here. That is what disappoints me more than anything. We could’ve played as well as we possibly could and still lost the game, but we didn’t play as well as we could which is disappointing.’

As Derry has talked at length about there is a way to lose, and there is a way to maintain your standards, and he just doesn’t feel we reached them in the match.

He is however still pretty upbeat about our chances of survival because we have been playing reasonably well lately and whilst we can’t get too carried away following the Coventry win, few would’ve backed us to get anything from this game, so there shouldn’t be a sense of panic because of loss.

What matters for us really is that we have a lot of games against teams in and around us in the table, and it’s those games between now and the end of the season that will define County’s future. The games against the likes of Wolves are a bonus if you can get anything from them, beating those sides within ten points or so of our own title, pushing ourselves up, and dragging them back down a little is what the season will turn on.

‘We have got a big month coming up soon with four or five of them and at the end of those games it will give you a clearer indication of where you will be.’

The biggest source of hope for Derry though he says is that following the Wolves loss, the players themselves are gutted and in the dressing room where demanding more from each other, so that sign alone is encouraging for him because he knows the players want more for themselves.
