A familiar face is returning to Meadow Lane to join our first team coaching staff as the board of Director’s look to a new structure ahead of the appointment of our new manager.

With Shaun Derry and Greg Abbott leaving the other day, Ricardo Moniz was set to be the new gaffer before a family issue took him out of contention, but Dave Kevan has already been appointed and he has left his previous club.

Kevan was assistant gaffer when we lifted the League Two title back in the 2009-10 season.

Speaking to the Official Site chairman Ray Trew explained.

‘In setting out on our search for a new Manager I had a very clear idea of what I wanted, which was someone who could excite the supporters and bring a new brand of football to Meadow Lane. I have spoken to numerous people and thought long and hard about how I see that developing and my vision is to have a core team of coaches who know English football, know this level of the game and, more importantly, know Notts County.’

Trew went on to say that this new backroom team will work alongside the manager who he hopes will bring an ‘attractive style of play’ to the club and whilst they will carry the title of manager, in many ways this seems like a twist to the head coach kind of role in football.

‘Our immediate aim though remains securing our place in Sky Bet League 1 for next season, so we have had to start putting things in place now to help ensure we achieve that and Dave`s arrival is, I think, a big step in the right direction on that front.’

Kevan has now left his job at Conference side Forest Green and his manager there Ady Pennock admitted the move came out of the blue, but there was no way the club could stand in his way.
