Gavin Mahon has rightly stated that games are won and lost in the penalty areas, and against Stevenage we just weren’t clinical enough with the chances we created.

Speaking to the Official Site said the game reminded him of the Bury clash earlier in the season where they were all over us, but the points went onto our tally.

‘I’ve been around long enough to know that’s football. It’s like whwn we played Bury earlier in the season, then they dominated us and we ended up winning. You’ve got to take your chances. It’s having that hunger and desire to get on the end of it.’

That said Mahon wasn’t disappointed with the chances we did create and with a it more luck the scoreline would’ve been different as for his one chance, had the ball been a touch lower he knows he’d have scored.

So there are positives that can be taken from the game, and hopefully built on.

‘What I would say is that there are a lot of positives to come out of the performance and we need to take that into Saturday’s game. Things aren’t far away and we’ve seen that in the performance.’

Not the way the caretaker manager would’ve liked to have started his County career but he can take heart from the performance.
