The reports in recent days heavily believed that Dutchman and former Tottenham Hotspur coach Ricardo Moniz was set to become our new gaffer but that is now not going to be the case as he has withdrawn himself due to ‘unforeseen family reasons’.

The full statement from the club giving an update is carried by the Official Site.

With an announcement expected on Monday, and then Tuesday, the club explained that he was our first choice gaffer in the selection process and talks had been held.

‘The club have concluded negotiations with Ricardo Moniz over the vacant Manager’s position at Meadow Lane. Notts County can confirm that the club have held lengthy negotiations with Ricardo Moniz about becoming First Team Manager, but that due to unforeseen family reasons, the Dutchman has been unable to commit to the role.’

The statement goes on to say that in principle a package that was agreeable to both parties had in fat agreed, but just prior to Moniz heading to England to conclude the deal a personal issue with his family meant he could no longer commit.

‘Notts would like to thank Ricardo for the time that he gave in discussing the position and have nothing but admiration for the ability that he possesses and what we felt he would bring to the role. owever, with two important fixtures coming up over the Easter weekend, it was agreed by both parties that negotiations would be concluded and Notts would continue their search for a new First Team Manager.’

Ray Trew himself said that Moniz did represent the style he wants to bring to Meadow Lane now.

‘I am obviously bitterly disappointed that we couldn`t finalise the deal for Ricardo because I saw in him something that I felt would give the club a real lift and would excite our supporters. However, I fully understand and respect his decision to put his family first after the sudden change in his circumstances and I wish him all the very best for the future. Whilst this is a setback, it hasn`t diminished in the slightest my enthusiasm for bringing in the right Manager and I am now looking forward to continuing negotiations with some of the other candidates who we have been talking to in recent days.’
