The Magpies went to Brunton Park on Saturday and came home with all three points after beating the much fancied home side 3-0.

Notts were on fire and were defiantly boosted by the news that Lee Hughes had been passed fit to play even though he had just 30 minutes of pre season football under his belt.

Four of Notts’ new signings were given their full league debuts. Julian Kelly, Alan Sheehan, Hamza Bencherif and Jeff Hughes were all included in the starting line up.

It took County just 13 minutes before they had the lead although it was a controversial one when Lee Hughes collided with a Carlisle defender who lay on the deck as Hughes crossed the ball for Jeff Hughes who opened his account from inside the six yard box.

Adam Collin was called into action to stop an effort from Bishop on 16 minutes and Mike Edwards tried a cheeky flick of the ball which resulted in it being cleared from inside the six yard box.

Notts were awarded a free kick on 32 minutes and that was crossed into the box by Sheehan and Zoko headed the ball passed his own keeper to make it 2-0 to the visitors.

That looked to have wrapped up the scoring for the first half, but Lee Hughes thought differently and in the third minute of stoppage time, he jumped onto a woeful back pass by Tom Taiwo and he slid the ball into the bottom corner.
