Manager Shaun Derry has said he was delighted with the efforts and the performance of Jimmy Spencer on his debut for the club, and he’s hoping that this will be a sign of things to come from the player.

With 15 games left the gaffer believes that if Spencer can maintain that kind of form, he will more than play his part in firing us to safety and helping us to kick on up the league over the weeks those games span.

Speaking to the Official Site after seeing him grab a goal on his debut and take the Man of the Match award, Derry explained.

‘I thought that was a proper number nine’s performance if I’m honest. Many times at Meadow Lane this year we’ve had some great performances from forwards but I thought that was a complete performance.’

High praise indeed. Derry goes on to say that given his efforts what it allowed us to do was to get up the field, and with him holding the ball up, it allowed us the time to get support to him and to give us multiple options when we were on the attack and the numbers in the end paid off for us.

It was a proper team performance as far as the manager was concerned.

His praise wasn’t finished there though, he also had good words for Hayden Mullins and Gareth Roberts and Derry credits the board for backing him the way they did when it came to his targets.

‘I thought all three were absolutely outstanding. We’ve brought them in for a reason, Hayden’s come in with a vast amount of experience, Jimmy just wants to go and prove himself and Gareth just use his old head at the right times.’

Certainly made an immediate impact didn’t they, hopefully all three will add to what we have and really help get the confidence flowing and play their part in us securing safety and by a decent margin as well so there is some real hope of kicking on next campaign.
