Notts County have made some ambitious signings so far in pre-season as they look to gain promotion to League One, here is an overview of the signings so far.

Neal Bishop – Aged 27. Signed from Barnet, Neal came through the youth system at Middlesborough and went on to play for a host of clubs including Scarborough, York City and eventually signing for Barnet for his first taste of the Football League. He was made captain last season and made 48 appearances, scoring one goal.

Ricky Ravenhill- Aged 28. Signed form Darlington, Ricky started his career at Barnsley where he made no appearances so he made the short trip down the road to Doncaster where he played 134 games between 2002 and 2006, scoring 9 goals. Ricky was then loaned out to numerous clubs before finally ending up at Darlington, where he made 90 appearances, finding the net 7 times. Ricky was thought to have a number of League One clubs after him but turned them all down to join the club he describes as one of the biggest outside the Championship.

Craig Westcarr- Aged 24. Signed from Kettering Town, Craig began his career at neighbours Nottingham Forest where he only made a handful of appearances. He was loaned out to Mk Dons and Lincoln City before eventually signing for Cambridge United on a permanent deal in 2005, he scored 8 goals in 31 games for the U`s. He then moved on to Kettering Town where he found the net 23 times in 103 games for the club. He is now reunited with his old Forest youth team boss, Ian McParland at Notts County.

Ben Davies – Aged 28. Recent high profile signing form Shrewsbury Town, Ben began his career at Walsall before having a short spell at Kidderminster Harriers. Ben then moved to Chester City where he scored 16 times in 116 appearances. He then made the move to Shrewsbury Town making 112 appearances scoring 30 goals. Ben has made a big name for himself in League Two and had offers from a host of clubs, one thought to be a Championship club, but decided to join the very ambitious Notts County.

Brendan Moloney – Aged 20. Brendan is another graduate of the Nottingham Forest youth system who has been out on loan at a number of clubs including Chesterfield, where he bagged his first senior goal and Rushden And Diamonds. He can play anywhere in the back four but his preferred position is at right back.

Graeme Lee – Aged 31. Tough centre half signed from Bradford City, Graeme started his career at Hartlepool United where he spent 8 seasons making, 219 appearances and scoring 30 goals, not a bad return for a centre half. He then went on to play for Sheffield Wednesday and Doncaster Rovers with Hartlepool (loan) and Shrewsbury (loan) in between before eventually ending up at Bradford City where he missed just 2 league games last season, scoring one goal.

Luke Rodgers – Age 27. Notts County have made some shrewd signings so far in pre season and one to have come up trumps is former Shrewsbury Town goal machine Luke Rodgers. He has already a made a huge impact scoring 4 goals in 2 games in the pre season tour of Austria. His partnership with Lee Hughes looks like it may be a force to be reckoned with this season.

Lee Hughes – Age 33. Former West Brom ace was a free agent after being released by Oldham. He has chosen to come to County despite a number of other clubs who expressed an interest. Forming a good strike partnership with the diminutive Rodgers has seen the Magpies score a number of goals against higher opposition and with more strikers to be signed competition for places is certainly going to be tough.

Karl Hawley – Age 27. It was at Carlise where Hawley made his name scoring 47 goals in 118 appearances during the period 2004-2007. A move to Preston North End then followed but things didn’t really work out well there and he was on loan at Northampton and Colchester last season. However as another striker competition for places up front have become even more fierce.
