Former Notts County player Sol Campbell has spent the last couple of months training with Arsenal and could be in for a sensational return to the Gunners.

Campbell who played just the one game for the Magpies back in September, away to Morecambe, has also apparently been linked with Manchester United and Manchester City.

One of Sven-Goran Eriksson’s first signings for County Campbell has been without a club since leaving Meadow Lane.

Wenger is looking to strengthen his squad and with Campbell being a free agent rumours are circulating that he could be offered a short term contract.

Campbell speaking to ESPN Soccernet had this to say ‘I don’t expect anything to happen in the first week of the transfer window as a number of clubs are looking to see what they can do or can’t do, and then they will make up their minds. But I am now fully fit and ready to resume playing. Maybe if they sold a centre half they might need another one.’

It is understood that should an offer not be tabled by the Gooners then Campbell may sign for Hull City or even Newcastle United.
