Pressure, We Can Handle It – Derry

Manager Shaun Derry has said that of course there is added pressure on the side in our remaining homes games but he’s backed the side to rise to the challenge and deal with it and get the points that we need.

Having taken nine points from a possible 12 in our last four matches, County have given themselves a great start on avoiding relegation with the games running out but we obviously need to keep that going and Derry only talked the other day about how important our home form would be to achieving our aim.

Speaking to the Official Site again ahead of the match this weekend, the gaffer explained.

‘The pressure’s there and I’m not going to deny that. Does the pressure become even more so at home? Yes, of course it does.’

Derry says that pressure comes mainly from the fact that people look at our away form which hasn’t been good enough and the fact our home form is better, so instead of ignoring that additional pressure that comes from that expectation, he feels we simply have to embrace it and allow it to drive us on to the victories that we want.

‘Thankfully, they’ve shown me that they’ve been able to adapt to that. It’s not a case of needing to do so, it’s a case of now demanding – we are demanding performances between now and the end of the season. We’ve going to be judged very much on our home for so it needs to be done this Saturday.’

Hayden Mullins has also said ahead of the game that it’s not so much a case of having a points total to aim for between now and the end of the season, it’s simply about winning every game.

With all the talk about 50 points and so on, the on loan Birmingham 35 year old says simply we have to go into every match with a winning mentality and come out of the 90 minutes as winners.

‘It’s hard to put a total on it with so many teams getting dragged into the mix, we need to take each game as it comes and aim for as many points as we can possibly get. We’ve got to go for five wins and try to rely on ourselves and not anyone else.’

Key to that will be a return to the form and results that saw us go three unbeaten ahead of the loss against Brentford, and if we can get back to that then we have every chance of pulling this off.
