County Exceed Derry’s Expectations

It’s not so much the ‘great escape’ over the last three games, it’s ‘greater than my expectations’ for manager Shaun Derry as we picked up three back to back wins.

The last three games have seen a return of a maximum nine points as we have beaten Carlisle United, Crewe Alexandra and Colchester United in quick succession and with the gaffer talking ahead of the Colchester game about false dawns and things like that, he couldn’t have been more delighted at full time with how the last week has played out for the squad because we now find ourselves out of the bottom four – even if it’s only on goal difference.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the gaffer said he would have been absolutely delighted with a return of seven points from the last three games, so to have grabbed all nine available it’s almost cloud nine time for him.

‘To get the nine was fantastic. We’re still right in the middle of the muck and we’ve got to continue delivering performances like we have in the last three games. We’ve made the right decisions 95% of the time and that’s why we’ve won the games.’

Derry goes on to say that it’s almost a dumb question when it comes to whether he wants this run to continue or not, but he points to the fact that he’s called for back to back victories since he joined the club and just as we seemed to get on a run the wheels fell off, so he’s delighted to see three consecutive wins now but he knows it’s absolutely vital that having given ourselves such a brilliant lifeline now that we build on and don’t fall away again.

Have we turned a corner?

Next game will tell us. Having already been written off for so long now it feels, not only is April now the decisive month for us, but the boost the players should have from being out of the drop zone should be palpable and backing that up with a draw against higher flying Brentford would not be a bad result.

That has to be the least we aim for.
