Manager Shaun Derry has called on the team to make it five games unbeaten when we face Chesterfield this weekend.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game, the gaffer also talked about County having the best defence in the league and his hope that we can now build on that by adding more goals to our game.

‘If we want to play expansive football, then we could lose two or three like we did last season, for us at this time, I feel we need to create a new mentality, a defensive unit and that starts from the front. Granted, I’d love to score more goals, but we’re not doing that at the minute.’

Derry goes on to say that in the hope of scoring more goals he’s not going to ‘sacrifice’ what has made us successful so far and we aren’t going to throw caution to the wind and go gung ho and all guns blazing like we did at times last season, because effectively building from the back is getting us far more consistent results.

‘We’ve got ten points from eight games and it took us 20 games to do that last season. I think that says a lot and we’ve made huge amounts of progress. I would love us to score more goals, but at the same time I want us to be hard to beat, stay in the game and I don’t want us to be bottom of the league.’

As for Chesterfield, the gaffer knows it’s going to be a difficult game and another good test for us and he’d love us to still have the best defensive record in the league come full time, and three points, but he acknowledges it’s a derby and things can happen in a game like this, so we just have to give it our best shot and give it our all.

For team news, Blair Adams has returned to training following injury, on loan midfielder Reece Brown has returned to his parent club Birmingham City following injury and skipper Hayden Mullins may miss the game with an injury of his own.

Right back Kyle Dixon and midfielder Greg Tempest are also out of contention because both of them have gone to Boston United for a month to get more game time under their belts.
