Derry Not Giving Up

Fresh from the disappointing defeat to Shrewsbury Town and wanting a reaction from the players, the last thing anyone would’ve wanted was a six nil defeat to Rotherham in the very next game, but unfortunately that was exactly what happened.

Three back to back wins leaving us bottom of the table and five points shy now of exiting the bottom spots hasn’t quiet undone the good work and decent results we have picked up prior to this run of losses, but it’s certainly given us everything to do again as the pack above us starts building that gap again.

Speaking to the Official Site following the heavy defeat, manager Shaun Derry was adamant about one thing though, nobody would be allowed to give up as we fight for our League One survival still.

‘They have to do some soul searching because we can put on any session and be as professional and do it right every single day, but it only matters on a Saturday afternoon. It doesn’t matter what you do in the week if you go and produce performances like that because you don’t deserve anything.’

Derry goes on to say that this is the club at rock bottom and it’s not as though the fixture list eases up on us now we are in March but he’s ‘not giving in, absolutely no chances’ and although he admits that this is the lowest point of his career in the game so far ‘I’m going to do it and they’re going to do it with me. I insist they do it with me because there’s no chance I’m giving up this job.’

The gaffer also used his post match interview to apologise to the 756 travelling supporters and explained that it was his decision to not let the players applaud the fans at the final whistle as he felt he had to apologise for them and he it more right that the acknowledgement in terms of a clap came from him and Greg Abbott after a showing like that.
