Defender Mike Edwards and striker Jake Cassidy have both spoken following our JPT victory over Mansfield last night.

Starting with Edwards who returned to the pitch having taken up a duel role as our strength and conditioning coach as well, he told the Official Site that it was great to be back and he couldn’t have hoped for anything more other than a win for us.

‘It’s fantastic to be back and play and come and get a win. I’m still undefeated in a Mansfield derby, so I’m happy about that. The reception from everyone has been great, from the supporters to the management and players. It was great to get back and play, the first time for a year and it’s been a couple of years now since playing for Notts.’

Edwards goes on to say that physically he feels fine and in some ways it’s the best he’s ever felt, so to put in a showing he was happy with and help the team put behind the ‘sickener’ against Bristol City has left him a very happy man indeed.

Goalscorer Cassidy, who is on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers with us, grabbed his second goal of the season so far as we booked our place in round two and for him in his interview he pointed out how important it was for him to have got off the mark at Meadow Lane.

‘It’s important to get off the mark at home as early as possible and thankfully I did that, maybe I was a bit lucky in the build up, but I will take them all day. I just tried to put is across the keeper and as long as you hit the target you’ve always got a chance.’

Cassidy goes on to say he thinks it’s the first time he’s progressed passed round one in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, because County knocked Wolves out this time last year so it’s going to be a new experience for him and one that he hopes we can continue to progress in.

Of course the Bristol City defeat figured in his interview as well and he said the players were determined to bounce back and to do that against rivals in a derby game is the best way to do that and he feels it was a great response from the team.
