Manager Shaun Derry would’ve taken plenty of positives out of yesterday’s pre season friendly against Halifax, despite the fact we lost one nil at The Shay Stadium.

It was a solid performance from the team, with momentary lapse being severely punished, but new signing Garry Thompson did have the ball in the back of the net on his non competitive debut for us, but that effort was chalked off owing to offside.

Derry would’ve been particularly enthused by the performance of Thompson as he did have another couple of efforts in his impressive showing, and fellow loan signing Zeli Ismail was also bright again for us during the game, having a number of chances himself and hitting the woodwork.

Our other loanee Jake Cassidy also got some minutes under his belt and looked pretty lively after only just joining us from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and the scoreline could’ve been far different, as it stands though ten minutes from time Halifax got the break they’d have wanted and grabbed the goal that won them the game.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll also got a run out with us.
