Manchester City keeper Schmeichel is on his way to Meadow Lane. Having been loaned out to Bury, Darlington, Cardiff and Coventry in recent seasons he has now signed a five year deal for County.

Still only 22 and with a fantastic pedigree this is a signing that can only get better with age. Stoppers tend to mature later and in Schmeichel County have surely got potentially the best young keeper outside the Premier League.

The deal is reported to be in excess of the record £640,000 paid for Tony Agana way back in 1991.

Schmeichel of course played for Sven in his fairly short tenure at Manchester City and made a total of 7 appearances for the Eastlands outfit before being armed out on loan.

The loan periods should stand Kasper in good stead for the campaign ahead as he will have experience and knowledge of the lower leagues and knows what to expect at the likes of Accrington Stanley and our opponents today Macclesfield.

McParland is obviously delighted to have signed the big stopper and told the NEP

‘It is a great signing for the club, obviously. He is one for now and one for the future.’

The County gaffer told the NEP that he had wanted to bring in Schmeichel some time ago and that the player had been on a wish list of players presented to Executive Chairman Peter Trembling.

With Sven now the Director of Football at Meadow Lane that must have been some influence in Kasper’s decision to drop down the leagues.

Charlie commented ‘I’ve seen him play a few times and obviously Sven knows him from Manchester City and he highly recommended him, so that’ll do for me.’

So who exactly is pulling the transfer strings at County? But then again, who cares if we keep signing quality players!
